NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE (NCI) TRIALS
We are honored and excited to have established a unique collaboration with the National Cancer Institute that provides our patients with streamlined access to the world class expertise and unique research of the NCI at the National Institutes of Health. This novel program, developed jointly with the NCI and the only such one in the country, utilizes an NCI research nurse in our office to help patients navigate through the entire clinical trials process.
It has been highly regarded by our patients, our clinicians, and NCI investigators and administration, and we are now beginning a new phase of this joint effort which will allow some patients to receive NCI clinical trial treatments in our office rather than at the NIH clinical center.
THE CLINICAL TRIALS SUPPORT UNIT (CTSU)
Overseen by the National Cancer Institute, the CTSU is a program that allows community practices access to large Phase III clinical trials usually developed by national oncology research cooperative groups. These trials attempt to answer pivotal questions in the field of oncology and have led to advances in the standard of care treatment for many of the most common cancers, such as breast, lung, and colon cancer.
PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY SPONSORED CLINICAL TRIALS
This allows our patients access to some of the most innovative and promising treatments through clinical trials that may not be available through the other pathways. Several of these trials in which AOH has enrolled patients have led to the FDA approval of new and effective treatments for lymphoma and colon cancer.
Participation in a clinical trial may not be appropriate for everyone. For more information on AOH clinical trials, please speak with your AOH physician, or our research coordinator, Mikhail Kalnitsky. For additional information on NCI clinical trials, you may also contact our NIH liaison research coordinator, Christine Muir.
